Rescue at Inspiration Point takes place, in part, at Spokane's 1974 World's Fair, commonly referred to as "Expo 74." I was there then, a kid about the same age Bennie was when she went with her mom to hear The Carpenters. And, like Bennie, I never even knew about  the carnival!

My wife, Tonie, also spent quite a bit of time at the fair, but that was
years before we even met. Learn more here.

When Van is taken hostage at a local prison, and Patsy is stuck in the role of hostage negotiator, Jill sends Bennie back to 1974 to learn more about the hostage taker and his crime. "Do nothing," Jill warns. "Just observe and report back." But the instant Bennie arrives in 1974, she breaks Jill's #1 rule. As Bennie pursues her own agenda in 1974, the hostage crisis escalates. Can Bennie rescue Van from so many years away? Or will her actions only make things worse?

REVIEWS OF RESCUE AT INSPIRATION POINT

"Time is a delicate thing, and those who use it must understand that. "Rescue at Inspiration Point" is a time travel spin on the thriller, as a group of hostage negotiators try to save one of their own, taken hostage at a prison. Bennie returns to 1974 to learn more about the perpetrator, but breaks the rule to not get involved. The second in the Rip Van Dyke time travel series, "Rescue at Inspiration Point" explores many ideas, making for an original take on mystery and time travel."
-- Midwest Book Review Library Bookwatch, January 2012

"Another winner from Kate Mclachlan! Rescue at Inspiration Point, the soon to be released sequel to her award-winning debut novel, Rip Van Dyke, is a funny, quirky, entertaining tale.

This sequel resolved many questions left unanswered in Rip Van Dyke. Kate skillfully weaves the tension of the hostage negotiations with Van and Patsy's backstory in a subtle and endearing ways that enrich the story. Meanwhile, the supporting cast is delightful, particularly Bennie, who risks everything at the chance for love. Through it all, Kate's humor and wit shine through, making me laugh out loud at times. Kate Mclachlan is a fresh, imaginative writer taking lesbian fiction in new directions. Rescue at Inspiration Point a wonderful read that you won't want to miss."
